Professor Prey is not my first DC Universe Online hero, easily my favorite and best. His basics are Acrobatics for movement, Magic as a power base, and paired M1911 pistols as a primary weapon. Now IF you want to read on I did (and will continue to do so for all of my heroes and villains) write an extensive background for the Professor. Enjoy!
History:
Professor Maximillion Prey was born in 1852 in London. By 1870 he had already achieved Doctorates in both Archeology and in Anthropology from Oxford University. After his schooling Maximillion took up a position at the University as a professor of Ancient History and Sciences. It was in this position that his explorations and adventures began.
At the age of 20 the Professor accompanied Sir Arthur Evans to assist with an archeological exploration of the Greek isle of Crete. It was during this exploration that Evans and Prey uncovered the palace of Knossos, documented their discovery of the Minoan Empire and Professor Prey began his heroic adventures. Amongst the discoveries of Knossos, Prey found the “Wisdom of Minos” – a series of carvings found in an area of twisted and confusing caverns. These words not only explained to the Professor how to exit this labyrinthine cavern, but also held instructions on secret rites and magics capable of many things. Once Prey memorized and understood the carvings he proceeded to destroy the markings and make his way out of the caverns.
Over the many decades Professor Prey has used this knowledge to further his exploration and discovery of many cultures and artifacts. Slowly his motivations turned from scholarly pursuit to thrill of discovery and knowledge alone. Many of his greatest discoveries he never documented, and artifacts never put on display or noted to the public.
In 1912 Professor Prey died while on an expedition into what is now southern Jordan. At the time he had been investigating rumors of a Lazarus Pit located near the site of Petra, and information gained from the journals of Johann Burckhardt at Cambridge hinted at the possible validity of these rumors. During his exploration Professor Prey, as well as his guides and assistants, were beset upon by a local raiders and after some slight fighting took refuge in the temple site where they had hoped to find the Lazarus Pit. It was only after everyone from his group had safely escaped assault and entered the temple that Prey followed and collapsed the entrance to cut off the attackers. Once inside it was quickly discovered that during the fighting Prey had suffered from a fatal wounding which claimed him completely only a few hours later.
Trapped inside the temple Prey’s remaining expedition group explored deeper into the temple looking for a possible way out when they came across the Lazarus Pit that Professor Prey gave his life to find. Although the pit was found, there was no finding of a possible exit from the temple. It was the hired local guides that came up with the plan to resurrect Professor Prey hoping that his arcane knowledge would aid them in survival. Wrapping his body tightly and placing it into the pit, the guides accomplished what they had set out to do – they brought back Professor Prey. This only worked partially though, as although it did bring Professor Prey back and he was able to assist in escape from the temple, he is unable to remove the pit soaked wrappings or he will immediately return to his prior state. Using his arcane knowledge Professor Prey applied many magics to the wrappings to keep them protected as well as imbue them with other abilities. Since his escape from the temple near Petra almost 100 years ago, Professor Prey has continued his adventures, explorations and discoveries – currently allying himself with the Sentinels of Magic against the magical uprisings of Faust, Trigon, and Circe herself.
Abilities:
Professor Prey is knowledgeable in many different magics and has collected an arsenal of mystic objects to aid him. On top of this are the wrappings that cover his entire person. These still hold the rejuvenating powers of the Lazarus Pit as well as other magics added by Prey himself. Most notably is the ability to use the wrappings much like a rope to grab on to nearby objects, people, or to use as a mode of transportation. As primary weapons Professor Prey relies mostly on his fists and his pair of custom M1911’s he bought brand new before his trip to Petra.
